Akinyi’s lab focus is to investigate the sources of variance in disease risk among wild animal populations and to identify zoonoses risk factors. Their specialization spans several key areas, including zoonoses, one health, disease ecology, parasitology, molecular biology, physiology, and animal behavior. In addition to these research interests, the lab emphasizes the importance of environmental sampling, collecting data from various ecosystems to better understand the interplay between environmental factors and disease transmission. This comprehensive approach aims to contribute to the understanding of disease dynamics and develop sustainable interventions to reduce the burden of zoonotic diseases in both wildlife and livestock populations.
